Best Self-Produced CD Nominated!
The Blues Foundation's competition for the Best Self-Produced Blues
CD
of the year is a big stepping stone for aspiring musicians.  ONLY
Blues Societies can participate, and the CFBS has listened to and proudly
named
Theresa Blue and her new CD, Carolina Blues, the official
nominee for this competition.  Her work will now be judged in Memphis,
with winners announced in 2012.  Congratulations Theresa and Tomcat
Records!

Cape Fear Blues Jam adds an 88!
As the longest-running and most well-equipped open mic in the Port City,
it was only fitting that the
Cape Fear Blues Society benefit even further
from the generosity of a local piano player.
Jim Nelson (BLP) offered up
a used
Roland RD-700 stage piano to the CFBS for a bargain price, and
we couldn't resist.  Gently used, professionally maintained, and chock full
of classic keyboard tones, this instrument is another great addition to
our Tuesday night Blues Jams at The Rusty Nail.  Thanks Jim!

Cape Fear Blues Jam
Welcomes Everyone!

The Rusty Nail remains the gathering
point for blues musicians and anyone
who enjoys an eventful evening of
blues music on a Tuesday night.

The audience continues to stream
through the doors of The Nail in force
despite the usual fluctuations due to
holidays, school sessions, and weather
patterns.  Musicians also make a
bee-line for the sign-up board and
early sets can fill up quickly.  All sets
are 20 minutes long or 3 songs,
whichever comes first.

Upgrades to the extensive equipment
inventory continue to occur on a
regular and "as needed" basis.  Amps,
drums, bass rig, and a complete sound
system are all supplied and maintained
by the Cape Fear Blues Society.  You
can learn more about the Cape Fear
region's largest and longest running
open mic night by visiting the

Ann B. Finkelstein Memorial Fund Grows Thanks to
Ongoing Success of the Cape Fear Blues Festival

Thanks to the success of the Cape Fear Blues Festival, and the generosity of Mary
Vallejos, Gary Sager
and the Finkelstein Family, the Ann B. Finkelstein Memorial
Fund grows stronger every year.  All three of the fund partners contribute financial
resources on an annual basis.  The CFBS donates a portion of Blues Festival profits
to bolster the bottom line of this important fund, which is focused primarily on
community music education projects for youth.  In addition, meetings between the
fund partners have brought about new concepts for fund-raising to build the
necessary base for future grants, once the fund reaches endowment status.

Established in 2005, the
Ann B. Finkelstein Memorial Fund is professionally
managed by the
New Hanover County Community Foundation and is jointly held
by the
Cape Fear Blues Society, the Finkelstein family, and Mary Vallejos &
Gary Sager
, long-time supporters of the CFBS.

This donor-advised fund proves that successful non-profit organizations can also
be stewards of philanthropy within their own communities, making them strong,
self-sustaining advocates of the arts establishment.  Current plans call for future
distribution of funds to music education & workshops, live music events, and
projects supporting youth in music.  While blues music will certainly be emphasized,
other musical genres may benefit as well.
