The Cape Fear Blues Society
Our Organization
The Cape Fear Blues Society was formed in 1987 by a small group of blues supporters in Wilmington, North
Carolina and incorporated as a non-profit organization under state law.  The
CFBS was declared a 501(c)(3)
charitable organization by the IRS in 1988.  Although growth was minimal in the years that followed, a
long-awaited organizational overhaul in 1995 brought about needed change and a surge in both membership
and interest.  Since then, the
CFBS has seen rapid expansion, established a firm foundation for blues music in
the Cape Fear region and developed into a vibrant, all-inclusive organization that welcomes listeners, musicians
and blues enthusiasts from all walks of life.  Thanks to its dynamic membership base, positive perspective, and
proactive management, the
CFBS is proud to be one of the most successful and widely recognized, non-profit
music societies in the Carolinas.
Projects & Programs
As an active blues organization, our purpose is to insure the perpetuation of blues music on a local, regional
and national scale. In the last decade alone, the
CFBS has developed and expanded a variety of events to
achieve this end:

- The
Cape Fear Blues Festival is a cultural fixture in our region and a rising star throughout the national blues
industry.  Festival events feature local, regional & national acts at our Main Stage Concert, All-Day Blues Jam,
Blues Cruise, Kick-Off Party, and Blues Workshops.

- The
Cape Fear Blues Jam has evolved into one of the longest-running blues jams in the Carolinas and is the
nucleus for the region's blues community, local musicians and enthusiastic listeners. Veteran & novice players
are always welcome on our stage.

- The
Cape Fear Blues Challenge showcases some of the finest unsigned blues talent vying for cash awards,
merchandise, studio recording time and more. Our winners compete at the renowned International Blues
Challenge in Memphis, TN.

In addition, the
CFBS participates in numerous special events, benefits, fund-raisers and community projects
that capitalize on the many positive aspects of blues music, our support base, and the concerted efforts of our
community, members and staff.
Communication
Communication with our members, supporters and community is of paramount importance.  To that end, the
CFBS utilizes print, voice, Internet and media services to spread the good word of the blues both far and wide.
Each format has its strengths, and we do our level best to exploit the advantages that they offer our
organization:

The
Cape Fear Bluesletter is emailed or U.S. mailed to our members, and distributed widely among music
retailers in the Wilmington area.  Information regarding
CFBS business, events and membership issues are
regular features of the
Bluesletter.

The
Bluesline voice mail system allows CFBS members and the general public to hear the latest in blues
happenings and plan for blues events on the horizon.  Important messages and inquiries can be left for staff
members at the callers' convenience.

Our website at
www.capefearblues.org is the latest addition to our communication armada.  It's a vibrant site
where blues surfers can find membership information, event details, blues & sponsor links, photo galleries and
contact data for the
CFBS.

Print, radio & television media outlets cover our events throughout the year.  The
CFBS is also found in national
blues magazines, local community calendars, regional entertainment listings and on a variety of comprehensive
Internet search engines.

The
Cape Fear Blues Society is an active participant in the vibrant arts community of Wilmington and the state
