The Cape Fear Blues Society |
Our Organization Formed in 1987, the Cape Fear Blues Society was established by a small group of blues supporters in Wilmington, North Carolina. In 1995, expansion and change created greater interest in Blues music and the CFBS developed into a larger, all-inclusive organization that welcomes listeners, musicians and Blues enthusiasts from all walks of life. Along with a vibrant network of Blues societies all across North Carolina, the CFBS continues to produce, promote and present the Blues for the benefit of our community. |
The Work We Do... As an active Blues organization, the CFBS focuses on the perpetuation of Blues music across our region. Thanks to our affiliation with The Blues Foundation of Memphis TN, our organization also supports the industry of Blues music on local and national levels. We've developed and expanded a variety of events to achieve this end: - The Cape Fear Blues Festival is an important centerpiece of our region's vibrant musical heritage, with events that feature local, regional & national acts at various clubs, concerts, workshops, jams, and the much-anticipated Cape Fear Blues Cruise. - The Cape Fear Blues Jam has become one of the longest-running jams in the Carolinas and is the nucleus for the region's Blues community, local musicians and enthusiastic listeners. The Jam's open and inclusive format welcomes veteran & novice players alike. - The Cape Fear Blues Challenge features burgeoning Blues talent vying for cash awards, merchandise, studio recording time and more. Band and solo/duo winners compete at the renowned International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN. In addition, the CFBS participates in numerous special events, benefits, fund-raisers and community projects that capitalize on the many positive aspects of Blues music, our support base, and the concerted efforts of our community, members and staff. |
Communication Communication with our members, supporters and community is important. To that end, the CFBS utilizes a variety of methods to spread the good word of the Blues: - Our email distribution benefits our members, listeners, event attendees, and musicians. Information regarding CFBS outreach, events and membership issues are regularly included. - Our voice mail system allows CFBS members and the general public to hear the latest in blues happenings and plan for blues events on the horizon. Important messages and inquiries can be left for CFBS staff at the callers convenience. - Our web presence at www.capefearblues.org is a vibrant site where visitors can find membership information, event details, sponsor links, photo galleries and contact data for the CFBS. - Print, radio & television media outlets cover our events throughout the year. The CFBS is also found in national Blues magazines, local community calendars, regional entertainment listings and on a variety of comprehensive Internet search engines.
